Maria’s Diary Week 5- Done and Dusted… Or am I?

The day I’ve been working towards has finally come! I get to put some make-up on, flex my muscles and show off all of the hard work at my photoshoot!
Coming into this, my target was to drop from 66kgs down to 60kgs in 5 weeks. Today is photoshoot day and my official weight is 60.5kgs, but to be honest, the number on the scale today doesn’t mean as much as I thought it would. Why?
I woke up feeling AMAZING and proud of what I have achieved in such a short time. In reality, the number on the scale meant nothing in the end.
Looking back now, I can see that it’s important to track and maintain your weight if there is an ultimate goal. I need to keep on top of my daily nutrition in order to stay within the limits of what I feel is a suitable and healthy weight for me. Going into this, I knew I had some bad habits which would be tough to get rid of and get under control.
No matter how hard or frequently you train, you can’t ‘out-train’ a bad diet.
Before these 5-weeks started, I had been eating way too much sugar and processed foods which led to me feeling bloated all the time, and my skin was a mess. I simply did not feel comfortable in my own skin walking around at 66 kgs. I was working out 5 days a week consistently and lifting heavy, but I didn’t feel I was getting the most out of my hard work. It was largely down to my diet, which thankfully I now feel like I can easily maintain. 5-weeks of hard training, eating real, unprocessed foods, tracking my calories, daily steps and weight…and I have never felt better. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s DEFINITELY been worth it.
Maintenance: Stepping on that scale to track your weight is crucial!
I’ll enjoy different types of food and have treats every now and then but in order for me to keep myself in check, I have to accept that in order to keep my weight down I’ll have to keep track of it all. This is definitely a lifestyle change , something I’m not always good at, however at my age and with new upcoming hormones on their way I understand that it is necessary. I’ve learned that my body works phenomenal at 62kgs and I plan on keeping it that way!
I feel phenomenal, and people are telling me I look STRONG – not skinny but STRONG! I love that!
Being in the fitness industry, it’s important to be able to understand not only how my body works but to understand what our personal training clients go through every single day – what cravings, mental challenges, physical milestones they face. It has helped me comprehend exactly how Hybrid’s expert personal training team approaches these challenges with our clients. This challenge and partnership with the trainers, was without a doubt the best way for me to see just how talented and committed our team is. I was handled like a client and offered support for so much more than the hard nights where I just wanted to eat all in sight.
Both my husband and I are true believers in showing our children that age shouldn’t stop anyone but more important that they can achieve anything they believe in.
I am in better shape than I have ever been, but it isn’t all physical. I am a better mom, wife, colleague and friend because of fitness. Fitness is my therapy, and by committing to better nutritional habits I can only get better with time! Just like a fine wine – which I think I’ve now earned!
