4 Easy Ways Your Partner Can Support Your Fitness Goals

Staying motivated to reach your body composition, fitness, or health goals isn’t always easy. Having a partner (or friend) support you can go a long way! Here are 4 easy ways that they can help you in reaching your goals:

1. Be Adventurous and Try New Things

Although fitness has been a part of my life for many years, I only discovered weight training in 2014 at the age of 35. I was under the illusion that those big dumbbells and hefty weights would make me bulky and manly. What happened was completely the opposite – I finally got those toned arms I had yearned for, built curves that I didn’t know I had, and felt STRONG and CONFIDENT.  So next time you and your partner or friend are debating what to do on the weekend – try a new fitness class, lift some weights, and have some fun while getting sweaty!

2.  Hold Each Other Accountable

When you have a special someone whether it be your best friend or partner, holding each other accountable will bring you closer together, set you up for success and benefit your relationship.  When I’m tired or in a bad head space, my husband pushes me to go and train because that was the commitment I made to myself, and to him. Not to mention I’m in a much better mood after I’ve trained! We cheer each other on in and out of the gym thanks to what started off as a fitness ‘hobby’ which has become a massive part of our lifestyle.

3. Share your ‘WHY’ with each other

My husband and I are now both in our 40s, have been married for 16 years, and we have 3 boys. We want them to grow into healthy, strong adults and therefore we are their ROLE MODELS. This means that we need to be consistent with training, eat a healthy and balanced diet, and show our sons that having this time to ourselves and each other is important. With your partner or your best friend, dig deep and share your reason for wanting to get in shape so that they can help hold you accountable.

4. Get Competitive!

At Hybrid we have so many options to work out together…and I have to admit, showing my husband that I can keep up with him during in any and every type of workout keeps me motivated to keep pushing! Whether it’s by going a little bit faster, a little bit heavier, or getting just one more rep than him. A little bit of healthy competitiveness never hurt anyone!

Both of us support each other and cheer each other on and I love that we can share this. Knowing my partner is my biggest fan and that I am his keeps us both going to reach our goals.
